Cumbria Coal Mine – Latest developments and how to object

Cumbria CC’s Development Control and Regulation Committee has, in effect, withdrawn it’s previous decision to approve the Whitehaven Coal MIne, in order to allow West Cumbria Mining to submit revised proposals which they think will be harder to challenge in the courts.   The deadline for objections is 15 June. SLACC will be submitting a further objection, and has a legal team (and funds) to take a legal challenge IF Cumbria CC approve this again.

If you believe that a new deep coal mine, extracting 2.78Mt of coal for about 45 years, (20 years after the UK is legally bound to achieve net Zero carbon emissions) is a really bad idea (!) then please submit an objection, and encourage others to do the same.

Your own individualised response written with passion will be much more effective than a template letter. It is a complex issue, and focusing in on one of the aspects below may be a good idea.

Comments need to be submitted before June 15th.
