During 2013 SLACC are offering free Dr Bike sessions to schools and youth groups in Kendal, alongside running subsidised bike maintenance workshops for parents, thanks to funding from the Kendal Local Area Partnership.

Schools: Would your school or youth group be interested in hosting an after school Dr Bike session? Pupils can bring their bikes for a free safety check, advice, basic repairs and maintenance. Contact slacc@slacc.org.uk or ring Ruth 07851719444

So far SLACC volunteers have mended bikes at Kendal Family Drop in Centre, Staveley School, Stramongate School and have a session planned for Ghyllside Primary.

Workshop 2 – Adjusting Brakes
Saturday 29th June, 2-4.30, Staveley
£5 (free places available)

Brakes are the most important safety device on your child’s bicycle. This workshop will familiarise you with identifying when they are not working well and knowing how to adjust them and when and how to change the brake blocks.

Booking required – Contact slacc@slacc.org.uk or text/ring Ruth 07851719444. Download a form from here (Doc) or here (Pdf) and email to slacc@slacc.org.uk

Run by experienced, professional trainers from Freewheelers Bicycle Workshop in Lancaster. These hands-on workshops will be held in the Pavilion, Staveley – opposite the playground. Courses are run by Kendal Transition Town charity South Lakes Action on Climate Change, funded by the Kendal LAP to encourage young people to cycle –  so those who will apply their skills to help mend and maintain young people’s bicycles are eligible to attend.
