Kendal People’s Cafe

COVID-19 UPDATE: Please note that since the outbreak of COVID-19, Waste into Wellbeing has been running a very different operation to usual. Kendal People’s Cafe is currently closed and food bags are being distributed to those in need at three food shares around the town each. For full details, please visit our Facebook page. If you’re interested in volunteering during this time, we’re asking that you contact Trustee, Chris Rowley (slacc@slacc.org.uk) rather than signing up via the app as would be the norm.

Kendal People’s Cafe is an established part of the town’s scene in terms of the reduction in food waste and the provision of support for those in need. It is widely respected by civic, commercial and voluntary groups in the town and in January 2019, won the Kendal Town Council “Wainwright Award” for the group which has contributed most to the residents of the town. This followed its success in being named as The Best Food Initiative 2017 at the Cumbria Life Food and Drink Awards.

The team of volunteers run a pay what you can café from the South Lakes Foyer, a Lunch Bunch event in conjunction with the NHS and continues to have a presence at many community events and festivals.  The group has also provided meals, to those in need, during the school holidays and at Christmas.

The People’s Cafe runs on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from South Lakes Foyer in Kendal. Visit Google Maps for directions.
