Let’s Get Cooking!

Waste into Wellbeing is delighted to be extending our series of fun, interactive community cooking events into 2024. They’re all about coming together to share skills, knowledge and good food!

Working alongside partners Action for Children and with funding from Westmorland and Furness Council, we hope these events will build on the work Kendal People’s Cafe and the Community Larder does in building a vibrant, supportive, social food community in Kendal. These events are open to anyone so please help us spread the word.

Community Cook-alongs

These informal, social events let us explore ingredients, try our hand at a bit of cooking together and ultimately sit down to enjoy our delicious creations as a group.

We promise lots more yummy dishes and the usual relaxed atmosphere, but in true Waste into Wellbeing spirit, exactly what we’ll be cooking and eating will be a surprise, even to us. Recipes will be created based on the surplus we have available in the larder that week. (All diets are catered for. Just let us know at time of booking.)

Upcoming dates:

Tuesday 19th March – 17:30 – 20:00 – Sandylands Methodist Church

Tuesday 16th April – 17:30 – 20:00 – Sandylands Methodist Church

Tuesday 21st May – 10:00 – 12:30 – Kendal Parish Hall

Many thanks to Sainsburys Kendal for donating ingredients for our Spring Community Cookalongs and for committing to support with the purchase of kit for our future training events.

Family Cook-alongs

We had a great time during 2023 working in partnership with Action for Children to run 4 fun-filled family cook-alongs. These events offered a chance for parents, carers and grandparents to cook alongside their children, learn new recipes together and share their creations during a sit down lunch. We cooked a whole host of dishes and enjoyed seeing lots of smiling faces.

Many of the ingredients used were from our community larder, meaning surplus food which would otherwise go to waste was cooked up and enjoyed by all.

Huge thanks to Action for Children for leading these sessions and to Morrisons Kendal for their kind donation of additional ingredients.
