West Cumbria Mining try to hurry things up!

As regular readers know, South Lakes Action on Climate Change is embroiled in a Legal Challenge of the UK governments decision to approve a new deep coal mine at Whitehaven in Cumbria. We are waiting for a 3-day Hearing at the High Court, but that process has been “stuck” because the Supreme Court still hasn’t issued a Decision on Weald Action Group’s “Finch v Surrey County Council” case. Just before Easter West Cumbria Mining applied to “by-pass” the Finch case and get the Cumbria case heard as soon as possible. You can read a bit more about it on our main campaign page.

SLACC and Friends of the Earth (FoE) have sent a joint letter to the Administrative Court because we believe this would be unfair to us, and possibly even extend the need for a further Appeal, causing even more delay to WCM’s plans. Our opposition to this coal mine, and it’s laughable but dangerous claim to be “Climate Neutral”, continues. Many, many thanks to all who have helped in any way.
