SLACC should get a “substantive response” to our “Pre Action Protocol ” letter to Robert Jenrick by the 11th March. Lawyers from the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) refused to give an answer by today (4th March) , saying that they didn’t think it was that urgent. If the MHCLG do not issue a Holding Direction or agree to reconsider a “call in” the SLACC lawyers would apply to the Courts for permission to start a Judicial Review.
However, there is an (unconfirmed) rumour that the Cumbria County Council Committee to reconsider the mine will be on 29th and 30th April. SLACC is waiting for confirmation from Cumbria planners. Previously the planners would only say that the Committee wouldn’t be in March, and as the regular scheduled Committee was the 8th April. A two day Committee hearing at the end of April would be very helpful to all those who wish to make their voice heard, and would be very welcome.
