West Cumbria Mining LTD has NOT tried to Appeal against September’s High Court Judgment quashing their planning permission. The Coal Authority also published a damning report on why the licenses for the mine were also refused. The government is now in charge of the planning application, which was first submitted in 2017, and will set up a process to consider it again
Owen Hegarty the Executive Chairman of private Equity firm EMR Capital Ltd, which owns West Cumbria Mining could decide to cut his losses and NOT to submit any more information. It’s pretty hard to see how they could provide evidence to back their claim that there would be ZERO extra emissions from the Cumbrian coal, or that US coal would stay in the ground if the Cumbrian mine opened. The UK Government needs to concentrate on jobs for Whitehaven that don’t cost the earth.
